Technique of simultaneous femtosecond laser assisted Myoring implantation and accelerated intrastromal collagen cross-linking for management of progressive keratoconus: A novel technique
Simultaneous femtosecond laser-assisted Myoring implantation and accelerated corneal intrastromal collagen cross-linking with Dextran Free Riboflavin is a safe and effective technique for management of keratoconus and improving vision.
Changes in stereopsis after photorefractive keratectomy
Photorefractive keratectomy could result in an improvement in stereopsis. Patients with high myopia benefitted most from PRK in terms of improvement in stereopsis.
Endophthalmitis Occurring after Cataract Surgery: Outcomes of More Than 480 000 Cataract Surgeries, Epidemiologic Features, and Risk Factors
The incidence of endophthalmitis after cataract surgery in our center was 0.023%, comparable with that of other previously published international studies. Older rural patients with immune suppressive diseases, such as diabetes mellitus, are particularly more prone to endophthalmitis. Vitreous loss at the time of surgery was associated with a significantly increased risk. Whereas antibiotic prophylaxis overall showed a 40% to 50% reduction in risk, intracameral cefuroxime was 100% effective in preventing endophthalmitis in this series.
Corneal Biomechanical Findings in Contact Lens Induced Corneal Warpage
The idea of evaluating corneal biomechanical properties for differentiating contact lens induced corneal warpage from keratoconus is a novel idea. The results of this study showed that there might be a potential application for detecting the subjects who are prone to warpage. Further studies are required on the corneal structure and histology of these three groups, with including one normal group with no history of the contact lens use, to prove our findings and find biological explanations for these differences. It is also recommended to use more advanced methods for the measurement of corneal biomechanical properties.
Multifocal Surgically Induced Necrotizing Scleritis Following Strabismus Surgery: A Case Report
To our knowledge, this is the first documented case of multifocal surgically induced necrotizing scleritis occurring after strabismus surgery. This study also highlights the fact that scleritis may recur even in an area distant from the site of surgery, despite initial control. It seems that maybe with a longer course of treatment it is less likely to recur, and tapering medications should be carefully managed.
Botulinum toxin injection for restrictive myopathy of thyroid-associated orbitopathy: success rate and predictive factors
Botulinum toxin injection can be an effective alternative for the treatment of the restrictive myopathy in TAO. The best candidates for injection of the toxin are patients with esotropia, smaller angle of horizontal and vertical deviations, and lower degree of extorsion.
Retinal Ganglion Cell Loss Precedes Retinal Nerve Fiber Thinning in Nonarteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy
Thinning of the GCIPL is first detectable at 1 month after NAION and persists for 3 months. GCIPL thinning occurs before RFNL thinning in NAION.
Mini-scleral lenses in the visual rehabilitation of patients after penetrating keratoplasty and deep lamellar anterior keratoplasty
Miniscleral contact lenses can be considered helpful in the visual management of post corneal graft patients. Other factors may influence the acceptance of the lenses
